At this time, the Las Vegas operations of United Blood Services have been able to provide the lifesaving blood needed by hospitals treating these victims.
When you donate, it can take two days for blood to be tested so it can safely enter the blood supply.
"I saw the plea for blood donors in Vegas and wanted to do something to help", said Deanna Barela. "So it's a unique way to give back when tragedy strikes." said Tara Matheson, Manager of Donation Recruitment at Central Illinois Community Blood Centers.
The blood can be used within 48 hours, even though it may not be sent to Las Vegas, it allows the other blood on the shelves to be shipped out immediately.
Individuals who are as young as 16 years of age (with parental consent), weigh at least 110 pounds and are in general good health may be eligible to donate blood.
