The air quality is in the moderate to very unhealthy categories throughout most of the state and it's predicted to stay that way for the next two days. On Wednesday air quality classified as "unhealthy", "very unhealthy", or "hazardous" exists in some areas of California, Oregon, Washington, Idaho and Montana. Meanwhile, conditions due to regional wildfires put the city of Cottonwood yesterday (Sept. 5) in the top five nationally for poor air quality.
Individuals should consider air quality conditions before conducting activities outdoors. The advisory is in effect until Thursday at 10 a.m.at which time conditions will be reevaluated, according to a DEQ news release.
Benton Clean Air Agency has issued an air quality alert.
Until then, back country areas remained off-limits to the public and off-roading bans also remain in effect.
He says for the next 48 hours, stay indoors and run the air conditioner to avoid the smoke and if you have to be outside, don't exert yourself.
Benenati suggested that concerned residents should pay attention to Air Quality Index monitors, one of which is located in Corvallis. Otherwise, use visibility to determine air quality.
Officials also note that Oregon's air quality monitoring network does not capture conditions in all communities, including Hood River, where nearby wildfires stranded 153 hikers on a trail in the Columbia River Gorge overnight Saturday.

"The businesses and residents of the Valley have done so much to reduce summertime pollution that it is unfortunate when these wildfires overwhelm that great work", stated Seyed Sadredin, the District's Executive Director/Air Pollution Control Officer.
