Huawei surpasses Apple as second largest smartphone brand in the world

First and foremost is this new set shows a physical front-facing home button/fingerprint sensor, whereas the fingerprint sensor was on the rear panel in the other renders we've seen. The powerhouse has seemed to elude most leaksters and we don't have a clue about how the phone will look.

Huawei will launch the Mate 10 and its sister phone, the Mate 10 Pro, in Munich on October 16, Mr. Yu confirmed.

"These players have become as equally important as Samsung or Apple to the global supply chain, application developers and distribution channels, as they continue to grow in scale more rapidly than the incumbent market share leaders", Tarun Pathak, Counterpoint's associate director, said in a statement.

The overall tactility design is also similar to the Mate 9 with tight radius curves on the back toward the edges of the phablet.

The days of dominion by Samsung and Apple have come to an end as third placed Huawei has finally beaten Apple, clinching second place in the global smartphone market.

The Huawei Honor 9 is a very good device and stands its own ground against the likes of the Sony Xperia XA2, as you can see in our face-to-face. There is also obviously a dual camera which Huawei have been doing for a while and we expect it to be more of the same with Huawei's Leica partnership leading to some great shots.

One major departure from previous Mate phones is the placement of the fingerprint sensor on the front of the device, just below the screen. Rumors suggest that the Huawei Mate 10 and Mate 10 Pro will be sporting large 6-inch-plus full-screen displays. That might disappoint some fans, but it does look like the regular Mate 10 will have thinner bezels than the Mate 9. A 5.9in display, a likely glass back and of course, a dual-lens rear setup as well as a Type-C charging port and 3.5mm audio jack.

Huawei's Kirin 970 CPU is expected to make its debut inside the firm's Mate 10 and Mate 10 Pro smartphones, which are tipped to arrive next month.
