Severe storm watch issued for Montreal, Ottawa on tornado watch

Meteorologists say an isolated strong to severe storm is possible.

A tornado watch has been issued for all of Western New York until 9 p.m.

They likely diminish below severe levels shortly after sunset, but still contain gusty winds, heavy downpour, s and lightning when arriving in the Boston area around midnight.

We are tracking a strong cold front diving into the region on Tuesday. Hot and humid conditions ahead of this front will increase the risk for severe weather due to extra moisture in the atmosphere.

Showers and storms could reach portions of the heavily-populated Interstate 95 Northeast corridor later Tuesday evening or overnight, but the risk for severe weather will be minimal as the storms weaken after sunset.

Environment Canada has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for the Montreal area, warning that "conditions are favourable for the development of unsafe thunderstorms that may be capable of producing damaging wind gusts, large hail and heavy rain". Winds between 50 and 60 miles per hour were also possible.

However, fog this morning and high temperatures throughout the day are expected first.
