Man Found Guilty of Second-Degree Murder In Toddler Case

She testified that she told McCarthy he had killed Bella. A computer generated image of Bella Bond was created and posted in newspapers, on TV, and across the nation via social media sites in hopes of finding her identity. Her body was found in June 2015.

The Boston man accused of beating his girlfriend's daughter to death because she was possessed by "demons" has been found guilty of second-degree murder.

"I could not be more thankful for the work done by the Suffolk District Attorney's Office and our State Police Detective Unit for Suffolk County in holding Bella Bond's killer accountable", Massachusetts State Police Colonel Richard McKeon said in a statement.

A MA jury has found a man guilty of second-degree murder in the death of "Baby Doe" Bella Bond. The verdict can not bring Bella back, and can not change the fact that she was failed - colossally and tragically - by the adults in her life.

McCarthy's attorney Jonathan Shapiro said he will appeal his client's conviction, but declined to say on what grounds or to field questions about the case.

"We don't take any joy here", Suffolk District Attorney Daniel Conley said.

He blamed Bella's death on addiction, noting that "By the time of her death every adult in her life was distracted from her care and well-being by drug addiction".

As the sun set over Boston Harbor on Sunday, about two dozen people gathered on Deer Island for a sometimes contentious vigil in memory of Bella Bond, the 2-year-old girl whose remains were found washed up on the peninsula's rocky shore on June 25, 2015.

Jurors could also have opted to convict him of involuntary manslaughter or find him not guilty of any of those charges.

She tearfully described how she allegedly helped McCarthy stuff her daughter's lifeless body in a duffle bag and then throw it into a river in South Boston, CBS Boston reports.

The jury deliberated for five days.

McCarthy, 37, will be sentenced Wednesday, prosecutors said.

A MA man has been convicted of second-degree murder in the death of a 2-year-old girl who became known as Baby Doe after her remains washed up on the shores of a Boston Harbor island.

Both Bond and McCarthy were heroin addicts.

Bella's mother, Rachelle Bond, and her then-boyfriend, McCarthy, were arrested in September 2015 after Bond told a friend McCarthy had killed her daughter.

"It's probably the only time she's ever felt loved", said Amy Durant, 44, of Lynn.

Sprinsky called McCarthy "a sick sociopath who got what he deserved".

The defendant, Michael McCarthy, was dating the victim's mother, Rachelle Bond, at the time of the girl's death.

Justice is served as Michael McCarthy was convicted this morning of killing of two-year-old Bella Bond, offering up no visible reaction as the court rendered their decision.
