"You survived. You did a good job". "[The escapees] told them that they would probably be dead in 24 hours and they didn't have anything to lose". And it ended because of armed homeowners who helped police capture the killers.
On Thursday morning, Sills reiterated that "the public is in grave danger". Authorities say two escaped inmates from Georgia have been captured after a crash on Interstate 24 and a foot pursuit in Rutherford County Thursday evening.

"We need the eyes and ears of everybody really in this country to be on the lookout for these two individuals", Sills said earlier today. Finally, the Cherokee crashed, the men left the vehicle and a foot chase ensued.
The pair was eventually captured in the rural community of Christiana, Tennessee, according to Georgia Bureau of Investigation spokeswoman Nelly Miles, thus bringing a multi-day manhunt that spanned multiple states to a close.
The wreck followed a chase in which the escapees fired on Rutherford County deputies. One of them fatally shot both guards, and then they jumped out of the bus and carjacked a driver who happened to pull up behind them on a state Highway 16 in Putnam County, southeast of Atlanta, authorities said.
The man and woman "are lucky they're alive", said Bedford County sheriff Austin Swing.

Authorities say the men overpowered two guards on a prison transport bus Tuesday and grabbed their guns.
At the time of the shooting, 31 other inmates were on board the bus, which was en route to a diagnostic facility when the escape took place.
