Syrian army says US-led coalition downed Syrian army plane

Branding the action as flagrant aggression, the Syrian army said the downing of the Syrian war jet by the USA coalition is an evidence on the supportive role of the U.S.to the terror groups.

"Following the Pro-Syrian forces attack, the coalition contacted its Russian counterparts by telephone via an established "de-confliction line" to de-escalate the situation and stop the firing", said a statement from Operation Inherent Resolve, the USA -led coalition fighting ISIS.

The Syrian jet had attacked fighters in the town of Ja'Din, which - accoring to the Coalition - sits two kilometers north of an established de-confliction area.

A US warplane shot down a Syrian army jet on Sunday in the southern Raqqa countryside with Washington saying the jet had dropped bombs near USA backed forces and Damascus saying the plane was downed while flying a mission against Islamic State militants.

SDF came under attack from regime forces in favor of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad around 4:30 p.m. Syria time.

"The Coalition's mission is to defeat ISIS in Iraq and Syria". When a Syrian army SU-22 jet later dropped bombs near the USA backed forces, it was immediately shot by a U.S. F/A-18E Super Hornet, the statement said.

A Navy F/A-18E Super Hornet shot down a Syrian SU-22 on Sunday, giving the USA military its first air-to-air kill since 1999.

"Coalition aircraft conducted a show of force and stopped the initial pro-regime advance toward the SDF-controlled town", the release said. USA -led forces have increased their presence at Tanf to deter pro-Syrian government forces in the area.

The incident took place in southern Syria near a base where the US -led coalition was training Syrian rebels fighting the Islamic State group.

The US military said it acted in "collective self defence" of its partner forces and the US does not seek a fight with the Syrian government or its Russian supporters.
