Suspected NKorea drone photographed US missile-defense site

The South and North remain locked in a decades long conflict, Japan has no diplomatic relations with North Korea, while China is Pyongyang's only regional ally but has tense relations with Tokyo.

'The feeling uneasy as this might be proven in practice.

"Trump blustered early this year that the DPRK's final access to a nuclear weapon that can reach the U.S. mainland will never happen", the editorial said, using an abbreviation for the country's official name, the Democratic People's Republic of Korea.

North Korea on Saturday boasted that it is "not for away" from testing an intercontinental ballistic missile.

The war of words between North Korea and President Donald Trump has escalated, with Pyongyang calling out Trump by name and threatening to soon test an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) "capable of precisely striking any place of the USA mainland".

In its statement, the WCC's executive committee offered a range of bold ideas to further "the ecumenical movement's support for and engagement in new initiatives for dialogue and peaceful coexistence on the Korean peninsula".

"When you think about the range they're able to get now, that puts a lot of pressure on countries like Japan and China and parts of Russian Federation", he told Newshub.

Under a deal with Moon's conservative predecessor, the United States deployed key components of the so-called Terminal High-Altitude Area Defense system this spring to cope with a potential North Korean nuclear threat. This year, North Korea has fired a variety of new missiles. There are no plans to integrate the missiles into the US ballistic missile defense system.

The remains of the small drone, which was equipped with a camera, were retrieved by the South's military last week from a hillside where it had crash-landed close to the heavily-fortified inter-Korean border.

They were launched from the east coast and apparently landed in the Sea of Japan.

It marked the fifth missile test-fire by Pyongyang since the South's liberal President Moon Jae-in took office in May.

But he slammed a subsequent missile launch as a "reckless provocation".

Kim has conducted 10 missile tests this year in defiance of United Nations sanctions.

"It was confirmed that [the craft] took photos of the THAAD site in Seongju", a South Korean defense official said, as quoted by the Yonhap news agency.
