An unexpected surprise at Microsoft's E3 presser today came in the form of Life is Strange: Before the Storm, a three-part prequel to the original Life is Strange game, in development by Deck Nine. Given the trailer's tone and theme, we think they've nailed the same feel regardless.
Instead, Before the Storm will be a small series (only three episodes long) focusing on Zoe Price, the rebellious teenager so integral to the story of Life is Strange's first season.
First episode in three-party series due out on August 31. The new game will be called Life is Strange: Before the Storm and, like its predecessor, will be an episodic series. Dontnod had previously tried to make it clear that their game would not be at E3 this year. Life is odd 2 will continue the deep story telling, allowing you to examine and interact with everything, as well as offering more puzzle solving quests.
Ashly Burch, the voice actress who plays Chloe, has also been helping out as a writing consultant, to make sure her character is consistent with who she becomes in Life is unusual.
No new information has been revealed about DONTNOD's new Life is odd game, but we did get a look at Deck Nine's new title at E3.
Life is Strange: Before the Storm will serve as a prequel, similarly starring Chloe and Rachel. Considering how Rachel was made out to be such an overwhelming and mysterious presence in the first game, it's definitely exciting to get to see a more human side to her, and find out what she's really like as a character. Not unlike the games from studio Telltale Games, Life Is Strange features a branching narrative formed by player's conversations. The package will also include an exclusive Mixtape Mode, which players can use to put together their own playlists from the game's soundtrack of licensed music.
