In a scene that is becoming all too familiar, though no less disturbing, a group of Philadelphia teens are seen laughing as one of them sucker punched an older man believed to be mentally challenged.
"The staff is very upset because when you work in our environment with all different people, you sort of look after a young person like this".
A video of the incident, posted on Facebook, is highly disturbing and hard to watch, showing a smiling, apparently distracted man suddenly slugged as bystanders watch and laugh. The victim reels back in shock and pain.
Police are reportedly looking into a possible connection between some of the youths in the video and an assault that occurred last week against a Germantown principal.
Facebook has since taken the video down, but it is still available on several websites. A second older male follows up and punches the man in the side of the head while he attempts to leave. There were about five attackers and they appear to be young teens. "It's a senseless act of violence", Philadelphia Police Captain Malachi Jones said.
Three of the boys were arrested at school Tuesday and released into the custody of their parents.
The four individuals who were arrested face charges of aggravated assault, simple assault and reckless endangerment.
That happened two days before police say Fitler Academics Plus School principal Anthious Boone was hit with the brick while breaking up a fight between his students and some from nearby Mastery Charter schools.
