Unveiled at AMD's investor day earlier in the month and shown off for the first time at Computex, ThreadRipper will be direct competition to Intel's new X-series processors that range from Core i5 all the way up to Core i9. The processor is based on AMD's Zen architecture, which can process 52 percent more instructions per clock cycle compared to AMD's older CPUs.
AMD did, though, show off a 16-core Threadripper blitzing through the same Blender test it used when it launched Ryzen 7 back in March, polishing off the workload in the popular open-source graphics program in a matter of seconds. These graphics cards will feature up to 4096 stream processors, HBM2 VRAM and several new technologies such as HBCC (High Bandwidth Cache Controller). To cap things off, it paired a Threadripper CPU with dual Radeon RX Vega graphics cards for consumers.
Prey ran on a Threadripper with four Vega graphics chips. We have seen AMD Ryzen 7 and AMD Ryzen 5, we also know that later this year we will be seeing AMD Ryzen 3. A working sample of a sub-15mm thin 2-in-1 with a Ryzen Mobile processor was shown on stage. In the first part, enjoy a succession of PC manufacturers saying "we love the PC!"
"HP is focused on delivering bold innovation in the gaming space, including virtual reality and eSports, with a portfolio that offers extreme performance and the best possible experience for all gamers", said Kevin Frost, vice president and general manager of consumer personal systems, HP Inc. The Ryzen R3 CPU lineup was not discussed in depth, but a Q3 launch date was confirmed during the press conference. In addition, AMD announced cutting-edge high-performance motherboard designs from ASRock, Asus, Gigabyte and MSI, built upon the X399 chipset. This news means amd has FAILED with its promise to release vega with Q2 and have left many wondering what the point of the vega series, especially when the cards are meant to compete with nvidia's YEAR old pascal series graphics cards but nvidia is set to release new even more powerful Volta series graphics cards at the start of 2018!
Virtual reality demands the latest technologies for realistic VR experiences and AMD announced that all Ryzen™ desktop processors are Oculus approved. That narrows the date of the announcement down to a window of July 30th through August 3, but it also leaves the door open for when the new Vega consumer cards might be available.
